    These are some of the common roofing terms and vocabulary you might hear when speaking with roofing contractors.

     

    Asphalt Shingles

    Are a the most common type of roofing shingle we see on homes in Georgia today.

    Architectural Shingles

    Are a high quality shingle with more depth and a dimensional appearance.

    Chimney Flashing

    Metal fit to prevent water intrusion into the seam between your chimney and roofing material.

    Flat Roofing

    Any roof that is perfectly flat.  It requires a special type of roofing system.

    Low Slope Roof

    Any roof slope less than 4:12 (4″ of vertical rise for every 12″ of horizontal run) is considered a low sloped roof.

    Pipe Flashing

    Prevents the intrusion of water in between circular roof vents or exposed pipes and the roofing material.

    Roof Pitch

    In building construction the roof pitch is a numerical measure of the steepness of a roof.
