A WALK INTO THE PAST: SAVANNAH

One of the most enchanting cities in the US is Savannah thanks to its rich history.  Savannah is the oldest city in the state of Georgia in the United States. At the same time, it is the county seat of Chatham County.  Its story begins in the period of British colonialism. Savannah became a British colonial capital of Georgia, and it was established in 1733. It soon became the capital of Georgia, and it had a tremendous significance in the American Civil War thanks to its placement on the map. Savannah today is an industrial mecca and Atlantic seaport. It is the fifth largest city in Georgia and third largest metropolitan area. 

 

Thanks to the generous program and vibrant energy, each year Savannah is a place where millions of visitors come to witness its parks, streets, notable historic districts, and buildings. For tourists, Savannah is the never-ending adventure. Just some of the things you can visit are the birthplace of the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA – Juliette Gordon, the oldest historical society in the South – the Georgia historical society, one of the first public museums in the South – the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences. For lovers of architecture, Savannah is a heaven on Earth. Savannah is famous for its downtown area. It is made up of many districts and squares. One of those is the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District, Pin Point Historic District, Thomas Square historic district and more than 20 squares, etc. For shopping lovers, Savannah is the ideal place. There are several big malls including  Abercorn Common, Savannah Historic District, Oglethorpe Mall, Savannah Mall and Abercorn Walk. The city lies on the Savannah River, and it is its largest port as well as the most important port in Georgia. Savannah is prone to flooding, so five big canals have been built to reduce the damage.

There is a reason why Savannah attracts millions of tourists, and it is not just its recreative parks and historical landmarks. There are numerous festivals held there each year like the annual Jazz Festival. Young people from all over the states but even wider come to Savannah to witness at least one of the many festivals held in it. One of the most famous ballet dance festivals  Savannah Ballet Theatre became the largest dance company in the city. Savannah Music Festival is the most popular among all of them. It is internationally renowned as one of the best festivals in the world collecting different music genres artists each year. Savannah Book Festival is another special event held in Savannah. It is an annual book fair which most famous and influential artists from all over the world visit and represent their books. Books are also sold at a lower price, and there are over 40 contemporary authors available.

Savannah is one of the most historically rich cities in the United States. But the past is not what makes it so enchanting. It is its spirit and positive morale of the people of Savannah that brings thousands of tourists here.
