As the largest principal city of the Savannah-Hinesville-Statesboro combined area, Savannah counts 146,763 residents as of 2016. When it comes to the Savannah metropolitan area that includes Chatham, Effingham, and Bryan counties, the population is estimated to be about 384,024. Savannah was marked by a big increase in population over the period of 10 years from 2000 to 2010. The number of people of the metro area jumped from 293 thousand to 347,611 people, which is an 18 percent increase. That can be explained by the economic and cultural development of this city, which attracts many students and new families. Savannah is a diverse city with a population density of 1,759 people per square mile. The dominant race is black, and it is followed by white and Asian.
